Fetes & Fayres

At fairs, fetes, and other outdoor summer festivals he runs a very different and smaller scale workshop, with just ten djembes, for a rolling “have a go, come and go” experience. This lasts for anywhere between one and three hours, according to client preference. Parents are able to drum alongside their children, making for a truly inclusive intergenerational experience, but at the same time the fluid nature of the workshop means that there is no pressure to stay and play for a long time, though of course that can also happen! This option has also been well received at wedding receptions, as an activity after the speeches and before the main evening entertainment, whether that be DJ or live band. Some clients even ask Rich to run a rolling workshop, then provide his own live drumming alongside the DJ!
He is also able to offer an African dance option, thanks to his Gambian friend and colleague Isa Badjie, now based in Ramsgate. Participants typically start with an hour’s drumming workshop, followed by an hour’s dance workshop, where Isa teaches and Rich provides live drumming accompaniment. This is particularly popular at the moment with hen parties!
